• Our Story

Our journey has been anything but ordinary. Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful, lasting work.

What began as a passion of collecting has evolved into something more. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead.

What sets us apart isn’t just our collection—it’s the intention behind it. We take time to acquire pieces of art to explore, and create with purpose at every turn.

About us

  • H&S Fine Art & Antiques is a private, appointment-only gallery based in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializing in American folk art, historic Americana, fine art, and carefully selected Asian works of art.

Founded from a longstanding passion for collecting, the gallery is guided by the belief that exceptional objects possess more than visual beauty: they preserve history, embody craftsmanship, and carry the stories of the people and cultures from which they emerged.

A Collector’s Eye

The gallery’s collection is assembled personally and selectively. Each acquisition is considered for its artistic merit, historical significance, provenance, rarity, condition, and visual presence.

At the heart of the collection is a particular interest in American folk art and Americana, including early American flags, vernacular sculpture, portraiture, maritime art, painted objects, and works associated with important figures and events in American history.

These objects are valued not only as historical artifacts but as individual works of art—created with ingenuity, character, and a directness of expression that remains compelling in both traditional and contemporary settings.

The gallery also presents selected European and American paintings, works on paper, modern art, and Asian antiquities. By bringing together objects from different periods and artistic traditions, H&S creates a considered dialogue between history and modernity, simplicity and refinement

Scholarship and Provenance

Research is central to the gallery’s approach. Each work is examined with careful attention to authorship or attribution, materials, construction, date, condition, provenance, exhibition history, and published references.

When appropriate, objects are evaluated or documented by recognized scholars, conservators, artist committees, scientific laboratories, and specialists in their respective fields. Works in the collection may be accompanied by conservation records, scientific analysis, certificates of authenticity, published literature, or histories of ownership through notable private collections and institutions.

The gallery is committed to presenting scholarship responsibly and transparently. Established facts are distinguished from scholarly opinion, and attributions or historical interpretations are described with appropriate care. This measured approach allows collectors to understand both the significance of an object and the evidence supporting its presentation.

A Personal and Discreet Experience

H&S Fine Art & Antiques works with private collectors, interior designers, and institutions seeking works of distinction, historical depth, and enduring visual appeal.

As an appointment-only gallery, H&S offers a personal and unhurried experience shaped around the interests of each client. Additional photographs, condition information, provenance documentation, scholarly research, and conservation records are available upon request.

The gallery’s purpose extends beyond the sale of an object. It is to recognize exceptional works, preserve their histories, and place them with collectors who will value and safeguard them for the future.

Where simplicity meets elegance. Every piece has a story.
